At Dundonald Castle and Visitor Centre, we’re so lucky to be located near ancient woodlands in the heart of the outstanding Ayrshire countryside which means each morning we are welcomed by a chorus of song coming from an abundance of bird life!
This year, once again between 29th and 31st January the RSPB Love Nature are asking us all to spend an hour counting the birds we see in our gardens, or a balcony or a local park, then are asking us to tell them what we spotted as part of their annual bird count. Experts from across the country will be bringing you photos, footage and facts about the birds they see, as well as answering any questions you may have. Plus, there’ll be live quizzes, and familiar faces throughout the weekend, hoping to make this the best Birdwatch ever. So whether you’re new to the Birdwatch, a regular to the event or an expert birdwatcher, why not sign up and play your part in the world’s largest bird survey?
Thanks to people taking part in the Big Garden Birdwatch, there is now 40 years of data, and this has helped increase understanding of the challenges faced by wildlife. If you are taking part in Dundonald this weekend, and are lucky enough to catch a picture or two, we’d love to see them! We’d also really enjoy seeing what kind of birds you’ve been able to identify across the village and in the woodlands
