SCOTTISH HISTORY BROUGHT TO LIFE

Here at Dundonald Castle, we run a variety of Educational Workshops from our historic and picturesque Castle and Visitors Centre. We cover a wide variety of subjects including Knights & Castles (our most popular topic), Celts, Romans, Vikings, Myths & Legends, Scottish Wars of Independence, Jacobites, Archaeology and Travel & Tourism – see the topics page for more information on each visit theme.  We also offered tailored visits, so if your group studies something outside of our listed topics, get in touch!

Our typical education workshops run from 10am to 2pm and follow a schedule similar to this, though all timings can be tailored:

  • 10:00–10:45 – Museum Introduction, Snack & Toilet Break, Costumes
  • 10:45–12:00 – Activity Session One
  • 12:00-12:45 – Lunch, Toilet Stop and Gift Shop (if applicable)
  • 12:45-14:00 – Activity Session Two

For the 2024-25 Academic Year, our visits cost only £5.50+VAT per pupil, with no costs for accompanying adults.  A Travel Grant Subsidy is available to visiting groups, which can cover 75%, or up to £300 of your travel costs per visit!

With around 100 visits per year and consistent five-star feedback since the programme’s creation in 2015, Dundonald Castle is the perfect place to bring your class or group to delve into Scottish history. Our team of volunteers and staff are passionate about history and education and would love to welcome your group!  If you are interested in booking an educational workshop, please email Education Officer Blythe at education@dundonaldcastle.org.uk.

Our education visits are priced to make them as accessible as possible, and payment can be made on the day, or invoiced to your school or group after the visit.
