Writer in Residence: Lorraine Johnston

Earlier this year, Lorraine got in touch to ask if we would like to stock her books. We jumped at the chance and now have her full range of amazing childrens’ books in our Visitor Centre Gift Shop. Each one is signed too!

Lorraine’s book, Whit of Whiteley’s Wood, that was written to raise funds for Whiteley’s Retreat had already been a popular seller and Lorraine has donated 100% of all proceeds from the book to this wonderful charity: www.whiteleysretreat.com

Lorraine doesn’t just support one charity with her books though:
‘MacMoley Moves Home’ raises funds for Scottish Wildlife Trust
‘Later Tartan Gator’ raises funds for Scotland’s Charity Air Ambulance – SCAA

All of these books are available to purchase in the Visitor Centre now!

A bit more about Lorraine:

Lorraine had a career in Health and Safety and spent her days writing and amending legislation, guidance and policies. After her health took an unexpected turn, Lorraine, with encouragement from friends and family took up writing.

In October 2011 Lorraine put pen to paper and by October 2012, she published her first children’s book.

Lorraine’s story is definitely an inspirational one and has now encouraged her to help other people recognise their creative writing potential.

Lorraine has been running a number of beginner and children’s writing workshop in collaboration with FoDC and they have been a huge success so far.

We very much look forward to working with Lorraine in the future and will hopefully be bringing more exciting activities and workshops in times to come.

We would also like to say a special thank you to all of those who have made it along to the first of these writing events – your support really means so much to our small charity.
